The Boy Who Steals Houses: a review

Hello!! Welcome to my little corner of the internet! Today’s post is (obviously) going to be a review on the AMAZING book by CG Drews! I totally realise that this book has been out for a little while now but I never got around to writing the review (all my notes got deleted!). BUT, since I adore C.G. Drews (Paperfury) SO MUCH I just knew I had to write a review for this amazing book.

The Boy Who Steals Houses is a gender-bent Goldilocks retelling, following Sam and his autistic brother, Avery. Two brothers who endured abandonment and abuse, their only option to escape was to run away.

Let me just start by saying both books by C.G. Drews are FANTASTIC and creative so basically anything she writes is worth reading!!

I took this book to Rottnest, thinking it would be a great book to read while with family. Wrong. It tore my heart out and made me cry (my family was very confused!).

The relationship between Sam and Avery was so so so heart wrenching and so full of emotion and love. Their relationship was obscure and complicated but they navigated through their struggles and loved each other so much, it was so beautiful to read. Sam’s love and desire to protect Avery was so pure, C.G. Drews wrote it so beautifully. I became so connected and felt such a deep admiration for the whole book.

She covered a lot of topics surrounding Autism, accurately representing what it can be like to have autism and how to appropriately help in hard situations. I feel like there aren’t a lot of books containing accurate representations of Autism so this book was definitely an amazing read.

Of course, I loved Moxie and her family. They were so charismatic and caring and such a great part of the book and Sam’s adventure. I would definitely love a sequel to this book with more De Lainey action !!!

I definitely rate this book 5/5 and 120% recommend reading this!! (and you should totally check out the authors bookstagram and blog, she’s fantastic!!)

Have you read this book? What were your thoughts? Please link your review in the comments so I can have a read!

Have a great day/night!!
